A List of Mushroom Cultivation Supplies

Whether you are growing mushrooms at home or on a commercial farm it is important that you have the right tools, equipment and supplies in order to get a good return with quality mushrooms, for the buyers. With a careful selection of proper supplies and tools, mushroom farming becomes easy.

Dedicated suppliers, specializing in fungi growing products, allow growers to find everything necessary for cultivating mushrooms in one place, catering to both beginner and advanced mushroom growers. Below is a check list of successful mushrooms cultivation supplies that one must have before starting to grow mushrooms:

Canning jars-These are used for processing substrates and for cultivation, canning jars are a great way to prepare small batches.

• Spawn bags with filter patch- These are incubation bags with a microporous filter patch that allows gas exchange, but prevents containments. Such bags are a great economical substitute to canning jars. In fact the bag is perfect when it comes to producing bulk amount of substrate because of its ability to hold large amount of seed, rye grain, or other substrate.

Plastic canning jar lids- These are are required to cover the canning jars and overcome the problem of rusty lids. These lids are safe whether the growers are using and autoclave, pressure cooker, or steam sterilizer and thus stay strong even with repeated use under high temperatures.

Parafilm- A flexible, rolled, thermoplastic and waterproof sheet interwoven with paper. Adhering quickly and firmly it is used to cover culture tubes or flask mouths as well as sealing petri dish edges. An excellent resistance to air, other gases, alcohol, and common acids, it stretches to 200% at 70° F and will return partially to the original size.

Impulse sealers- These are used with spawn bags to create a sterile seal by melting the bag quickly and effectively. Sealing is very important in mushroom farming because it greatly reduces the risk of spawn contamination, providing quality edible mushrooms as end products.

Vacutainers- These are great for spore solutions, liquid cultures or for shipping cultures. These glass tubes feature conventional closures that allow a needle to pass through, closing upon retraction of the needle essentially piercing the cap without leaving any hole.

For a successful cultivation many growers create their own mushroom growing kit with the help of these and other supplies and tools available from suppliers. Make sure that correct nutrients are also used during cultivation to get quality mushroom batches for the buyers.
